Today marks the 60th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence, yaay!! Big Congratulations to Nigeria. 60 years is a huge milestone, we’ve come a long way.

Several questions have constantly plagued me about this country though : Are we truly Independent? What do we have to show for six decades of independence from the British colonizers? Is 60 years too short for us to have built our country the way we want it? What could we have done differently? Where did we go wrong?

While there maybe certain things that are working in the country, there are so many things wrong that it makes the things going well seem very blurry.

Poor health care system, Poor Educational system, Insecurity, Unemployment are just few of the so many things not going so well. I feel we as citizens as well as the government all have a role to play. And as long as the parties involved don’t do their bit, things won’t move forward.

Today, as we celebrate Nigeria’s Independence, we should all also reflect soberly. We are the ones that can fix our country, we all have a part to play and we should all be faithful in doing so. Whatever we do, posterity will ask each and everyone of us.

Nigeria has everything it needs, we just need to move in the right direction and do the needful. Of course, the magic won’t happen overnight but we’ve been crawling for far too long. It’s time we start walking, so we can run and then fly.

I believe Nigeria is a Diamond in the rough, a little polishing and refining here and there will bring out its true beauty making our dear great nation sparkle the way it should.

Happy 60th Independence, God Bless Nigeria.
